FailRP is a community term for actions that break a server’s roleplay expectations. Its exact meaning depends on that server’s rulebook. Losing a scene or making a believable character mistake is not automatically FailRP.
What it can look like
A server may treat ignoring a serious injury, leaving to escape an ongoing scene or using an impossible action to avoid consequences as FailRP. These are examples to compare with the local rules, not universal platform offences.
Context matters. A short clip may omit what happened before the scene or what a player could see. Read the rule and consider the full interaction before reporting someone.
How it differs from other terms
Metagaming means using information from outside the character’s experience in roleplay, such as another player’s livestream. Powergaming concerns forcing outcomes or claiming unrealistic abilities without a fair opportunity to respond. One incident can overlap with several community rules.
How to avoid problems
Read the server’s rules before joining complex scenes. Keep character knowledge separate from Discord or stream information. React to events within the server’s injury and scene rules. Give other players room to respond.
If you are unsure, use the approved help or reporting route. Avoid turning the scene into an out-of-character argument. Keep a full clip or relevant timestamp when asking staff to review it.
For moderators
Explain the specific action, applicable rule and evidence when making a decision. Distinguish a new player’s misunderstanding from repeated conduct. Publish examples and an appeal process, then use recurring disputes to improve unclear rules.
